It removes oxidation from the surface you are soldering to, making it easier for the solder to flow onto it. What else is there... hmm, Just think and google. Oh, and for your own sake, do some practice on some old electronic you have lying around. It's rather small parts in the game consoles. Edit: go with a thin soldering iron head. Maybe buy a soldering pencil instead? a thin head and low wattage will make sure, you dont screw up as easy at the very least.... If you need to ask how to use a soldering iron, your PS3 is at great risk of being dun goofed. Know your own limits But, also, on the positive side, it's fun soldering
