Multiman's Bluray playback fix, the easiest method on the net, has worked a charm! I just ran it without any blu-ray in the drive then restarted the PS3, and to my surprise blu-rays now work.
Really wasn't expecting much considering the 3.50 remarry method would "pass" every time but still the "Playback of BDs is prohibited" message persisted.
Props to all involved with developing this fix and to DeanK for making it user friendly!
