CFW allows homebrew (showtime, emulators, etc), and game modding, along with fixes like for cinavia to enjoy full featured media playback without restrictions.

im using 4:20 but wanted to downgrade it so i could use cfw but then i read about no psn access so now im in 2 minds, im thinking maybe get a new ps3 and use the old one for cfw .
My ultimate goal was to be able to host lobbies on mw3 and give people the xp
and basically glitch, i understand that is a totally different thing but i knew cfw was the place to start but i deffo appreciate your help tho.
