File system corrupted, need advice.

Got my hands on an 80G PS3 a few months back. Since it was used, I waited a month to make sure it worked okay. Then I invested in the parts to do a hard drive upgrade. Bought a 1T drive, everything went smoothly, and has been working fine for another month.

This morning when I got up, noticed the green light was blinking on the unit, so switched tv over from the cable box to the ps3 only to see a "File system is corrupt...connect controller with usb to restore" message. Which I did. It's now been 4 hours and it's only at 8%. Does this sound about right? FYI, since I haven't really had the system very long there wasn't much on it, except for some game saves from Doom 3 and Assassin's creed 3.

What could have cause this and how can I prevent this from happening again?
