Sounds like this could possibly be it, although only one of a few possible things.

Multiman is certainly very badly optimized for large file systems/large numbers of files. It really does run like a dog as drive approaches about 2/3 it's capacity full. Everything slows to a crawl.

Not a slander on Multiman, on the whole top notch obviously. It's clear programming low level stuff isn't deank's strong point and that's not a criticism.
