You know what djhazardous, I'm sorry for what happened to you. I don't know the whole story. But the bottom line is that you took your own console, sent it away, and "risked a downgrade".
I've just handed my console over to keano myself. And you know what? If my PS3 comes back and it doesn't work, whatever. We run that risk. Whether it gets damaged in transit or there's a fault with the downgrade, it's a choice I made and I can live with that. This isn't an easy procedure, and it's definitley a grey area in terms of legality. Otherwise you could take it to a nice store that would do it for you and give it back with the top 5 games already loaded onto a nice new copy of multiman. With a new polish to the case.
