I bought a ps3 2 months ago and the bluray seemed dead, since it wouldn't grab my disc or play them. I tried updating firmware but it got stuck in loop for about a month and it just went through randomly. I downloaded a psn and when launched it froze as a black screen. Every app and pan game does this.

I opened up my ps3 and checked and noticed my bluray ribbon has black marks on the motherboard side of it. I also replaced my bluray drive with a 100% working one and it is completely dead with this ps3, no motor, laser light, and didn't grab disc (and yes I switched logic boards).

Now the first logical step is replacing my bluray ribbon cable, but is a bluray ribbon so important that a Bluray is COMPLETELY dead with a broken one? I was under the impression that even without the ribbon the drive motor would go, even if it couldn't play games. Should I also replace the bluray power cable? Any advice would be most appreciated.
