I call BS on anything except a faulty HDD.
I've copied over 1TB lots of times on my PS3 in one go. (over 300,000 files)
small files do take FOREVER in Multiman, by forever, I mean...FOREVER!!!
It's completely normal though and just down to lack of optimization in Multiman and general limitation of FTP too if you're using FTP. Multiman likely doesn't do any caching of files when doing file operations, it's not really a priority though and would take further work from deank to optimize obviously.
This has always been an issue and is an issue on all hard drives, however fast, and on whatever PS3. It's not an actual "issue".

wdidle3 will not help here, that's for turning off head parking when the drive isn't being used. Clearly there will be no head parking going on here.
But it's an ESSENTIAL thing to use on scorpio drives - but that's a separate thing, and related to stopping freezes in games/xmb.
Although, a 1TB Scorpio Blue is rubbish anyway OP and you'd best get rid of it, it will cause crashes in lots of games and slowdown too.
AVOID that POS like the plague.
In fact, avoid ANY Scorpio Blue over 250GB, they have ridiculously conservative spindown times that can't be changed with any PC utility including wdidle3 (yes you can change in HDDTUNE, but it's not persistent - as soon as you turn off the PC, the settings are lost).
