if the kid can't manage to find odd jobs to make money to buy second hand games, i doubt he will make good on "future savings". The kid i gave mine to his family couldn't afford the console but they manage to buy used games from gamestop or friends just fine ( hell i gave him my ps3 library to go with it "10 games or so")

Unless the kid lives in China he probably can't get a job, other than selling lemonade drinks (requires money also for cups + water/lem) outside or something.
