OK i took apart ps3 to get at usb ports and checked resistance as below and found the following differing results between the 2 ports, as you can see there is a short in the right port as no resistance and coincidently this was the port that was charging the helicopter when the ps3 powered down and would not restart, all the other connections on the ports were similar except for the ones highlighted below. does it seem that the right port is faulty and preventing start up (fingers crossed)

lol, it was not what i advised, did you still get the 1 ohm reading on that port?
