Go ahead and pay, nobody cares.
People with some patience and intelligence realize you can get backups running on your PS3 for no cost whatsoever. Well, the cost of a hard drive and USB stick, but you don't have to buy ODDEs or DRM Tru Blue nonsense when the software is already out in the wild.
The only people who have to pay are those with OFW higher than 3.55, and you might as well pay for a flasher so you can downgrade the PS3 and completely open it.
Instead of buying some ODDE which will die as soon as they stop supporting it and can only do one thing, you can completely open your PS3 for so much more.
The only possible advantage in an ODDE is transparency when connecting to the PSN, you may be able to avoid a ban if you don't tamper with your game files, but that's a big maybe depending on how the ODDE will work.
The other advantage....newer games? Seems like we can play all newer games now since the bootldr keys got leaked. Hell, we can even activate PSN content.
