i've done it, an MP4 file WITH 5.1 surround sound!
this is only part 1 of the toot, showing u what i did, and it IS working on my ps3!
this toot is a work in progress, i will keep it updates when i can!
what u need:
MKVExtract
MKVToolNix
GotSent OR
GotSent 0.24 Beta4 (direct download from mediafire)
YAMB
audio converter of ur choice!
and its so easy to do!
1. extract the audio from ur mkv using mkvextract.
2. run ur mkv file thru gotsent, and wait for ur output file.
3. convert ur audio using ur favorite audio converter, be it AC3 or DTS, to AAC LC
**or** if ur mkv already has AAC audio, go to step 4
4. open YAMB and add the mp4 file u got from GotSent, and unselect the 2 channel audio, then add the 6 channel aac u made from ur ac3 or dts file.
4. hit go and wait.
u should now have a fully working MP4 file with aac 5.1 audio.
i am still looking for a good DTS or AC3 to AAC converter, the movies i had already had AAC audio so they worked a treat!
here are the MediaInfo files from the original MKV file and the created MP4 file.

F.A.Q's
1. ok fat boy, i've followed the tutorial to the lewtter, and i've got a nice .mp4 file but my lovely surround sound system doesnt give me any audio, but it does work thru my tv, whats going on?
A. this was my only snag of this whole thing, SOME surround sound systems (like my own, d'oh) DO NOT support AAC 5.1 play-back, ur tv should chuck it out as 2.0 stereo, and it will sound great, but u woung get 5.1, if u r getting NO SOUND at all, go to [SETTINGS] the down to [SOUND SETTINGS] and whatever output type u r using make sure u uncheck the AAC box, that way it will just pump it out as stereo! its the only flaw in my master plan to take over the video conversion world!
2. why not just split the .mkv file and then use H264info to drop the video level from 5.1 to 4.1 and that would mean u didnt have to use GotSent.
A. i HAVE tried this and for some reason it didnt work, the finished mp4 was playable but the video was all messed up, where it was ment to be black it was white, but NOT in negitive, the colours were all right. i dunno why but i have only got it to work using GotSent, it does something to the video in the mkv so it is perfect for a mp4.
MORE F.A.Q's coming soon!
