Because I just checked (with a different proxy software), and my PS3 (FW 3.10) is still doing those requests to "http://feu01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/list/eu/ps3-updatelist.txt" in my case, can't see no SSL requests in the proxy log so far. But I honestly have no clue other than what I just tried out, can you give some more info ?

yea that's all it did but since im on 2.50 i started to try and get it to work again and noticed a ssl session this time around. i have some pcaps from when i tried long ago but being grounded kinda limits my 'time' to help :/

if i get some time ill try and upload the caps .

Well, at least be sure to also put a message on the us blog, eu blog and the official sony forums.. just to make sure more people are complaining about the removal.

And for those who think it is an april fools joke, it really isn't.. (it's also stated in the blog that it's not a joke)

I'd rather have them not remove the OtherOS option so Geohotz doesn't go for a customfirmware (because using customfirmware can be tricky ofcourse with normal games, no-body knows what will happen when you 'get caught' with one).
Also if sony is even smarter then also give support for RSX under linux, which was the goal for Geohotz anyway, by giving almost complete access to the hardware it would remove the necessity for hackers to try to hack it.. and we as a developer community can really enjoy the PS3..

It's a damn shame that they're doing this. I will survive on PS3ProxyGUI as long as I can. As of two weeks ago, it was working on a 3.10 system to bypass 3.15 (and it had previously been working on 3.01 on my system). I only updated for God of War.

However, I do think it was around the 2.80 update that something changed because I remember I HAD to update- it just wasn't letting me on PSN until I did that. Maybe they change something in the firmware every so often and PSN looks for that change...I don't know. I just remember being ultra-frustrated with that update.

Legally, I'm not sure what can be done from a consumer end. It's possible someone might be able to bring something to court. Not due to PSN, but because you would be unable to play future games. Even that would be a stretch. However, if a European government wanted to take Sony to task for tax evasion, they probably could. If you'll recall, Sony originally marketed the thing as a computer to avoid certain taxes on the system. By removing the feature, what used to be a computer is no longer a computer.

But would any government actually step up and do it? Probably not, unless there were a ton of angry customers in that country.

There is more to the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system than you may have assumed. In addition to playing games, watching movies, listening to music, and viewing photos, you can use the PS3™ system to run the Linux operating system.

By installing the Linux operating system, you can use the PS3™ system not only as an entry-level personal computer with hundreds of familiar applications for home and office use, but also as a complete development environment for the Cell Broadband Engine™ (Cell/B.E.).
excerpt from Sony’s own PS3 Open Website Platform…

false advertising.
this isn't legal. it's an april fools joke.

That might be a good case, it's fraud and it sure as hell would mean a couple of million per country on extra taxes.. propably with a penalty.. It's a good thing to look into..
