PS3 Fan Overclocking
KillerBug from Afterdawn was worried about overheating issues regarding his PS3, so he decided to modify his console, so that his fans are always at full speed, here is a quote from the thread:
![]() ![]() YouTube - 100_0428.MOV Note that this is a 40GB PS3 and the console gets very loud. Full story Here Last edited by GregoryRasputin; 04-28-2010 at 07:10 AM. Reason: Added Video thanks to KillerBug |

why not just buy fans for the back, i have the nyko ts fan on both my ps3's and they don't get that hot, it pulls the hot air out of the ps3, they are only about $20, they run off there own power and will stay on after u turn ur ps3 off to pull the rest of the hot air out and then shut off
and the sound level is prob the same as doing this without the risk of burning out ur fan what they look like ![]() ![]()

I guess this saves money and some people like doing modifications rather than buying something. |

just one question: why? From the data that is publicly available PS3's don't really get YLOD, it's mostly something that RROD has surfaced, it's a general error that is not very common. So, my question is WHY???
I own a 60 GB PS3, and being SUPER silent compared to a XBox 360, still after prolonged play sessions, 2-3h+ The console kicks it to high gear, and I must say it's pretty annoying despite my 550W sound system!!! I would recommend a thorough cleaning of the PS3 Innards for better cooling instead of this... well... Turbo Mod!!! |

I doubt this will cause the fan to burn out faster; the PS3 (or at least my PS3) comes with a very nice fan from Delta...a fan that is designed to run at full speed all the time. I should have choosen my thread title better; this is not "overclocking" the fan; it is just setting it to it's rated clock.
I did not use the add-on fan because I have heard horror stories about those making the system run hotter than it does without the addon fan. I can see how that would happen, as the internal fan is controlled by system temperature...if the temp drops, the internal fan slows down, giving less direct airflow to the various components that do not have temperature sensors. Also, even if a fan didn't make the system get hotter, I know that it would never get the system as cool as mine. Regardless, this fix cost me nothing and no waiting...and my PS3 still looks stock. Oh, and it turns on and off with the system; no extra switches to worry about. "Just one question: why? From the data that is publicly available PS3's don't really get YLOD, it's mostly something that RROD has surfaced, it's a general error that is not very common. So, my question is WHY???" I think you have mixed some stuff up...the YLOD is not rare (just look at ebay), a PS3 with a RROD would be very rare, as the RROD is a XboX360 thing. Why? 1 - to prevent the YLOD, or other heat-releated failures. 2 - to recover from YLOD or other failures (after a heatgun fix, the system tends to run a lot hotter). 3 - To prove it could be done. As for the videos, I'll post one of my system later today (I get home in about 2 hours). I only own a 40GB phatline...so I can't even confirm the information posted over at afterdawn by Decoto...perhapse he would post a video of his 60GB if you asked him nicely. |
