A friend tested the patched manager with his debug and he told me it creates a directory with all the files untouched.
Since original files can't work from hdd there must be some other tool that patch the eboot.

I tried it because you asked................ But i re-read the comment and realised you didnt mean it they way i thought you meant it :-p
i have a old ps3 that i can (possibly) get the retail ps3 version of the manager.pkg onto. i can (possibly) do this only because i have the original ps3 firmware version 1.10 on my 60gb launch ps3 (been in the box since i bought it 4 years ago) and i will later on today try to use a old exploit to trick my ps3 into installing the .PKG. i now know for a fact that even if it installs and i can use the program to dump/backup the games i cant get them to boot up without the dongle.

to all the nay Sayers who think this is fake just cuz this came out of nowhere with no previous info, well THAT IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why let the world and sony about a attack on there system and give them a heads up? LOOK AT OTHEROS and GeoHOtz, he didnt need to discuss and tell everyone that he was working on the ps3 he didnt need to publicly release his method of attack as proof that he hacked teh unhackable geohot wanted a challenge and more e-fame. he got that. if he would have keept tight lipped about his **** and waited until he had something that was actually useful to the end users we would all still have otheros and not the drama

I'm wondering if Sony can use their jig to revert to lower firmware. I don't know if it's really necessary for it to have this capability though, it would probably make more sense to release a higher fw version fixing any fatal bugs in a previous release.

However, what if the fw is so corrupted that it doesn't know what fw it's supposed to be on, or it thinks it's on fw 99.99?

I think it's not implausible that this mod could lead to a way to downgrade the fw thus bringing back otheros.

new update

PS3 Firmware (v3.42) Update
The next system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system will be released on August 19, 2010 (JST), and will disable the USB ports that are available on all PS3 systems, launched in November 2006. Due to security concerns, Sony Computer Entertainment will remove the functionality through the 3.42 system software update.
In addition, disabling the USB ports will help ensure that PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of gaming and entertainment content from SCE and its content partners on a more secure system.
Consumers and organizations that currently use the USB ports can choose not to upgrade their PS3 systems, although the following features will no longer be available;
* Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat
* Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.42 or later
* Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings)
* Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.42 or later
Additional information about PS3 firmware updates, including v3.42 (once it becomes available), can be found here: http://us.playstation.com/support/sy.../ps3/index.htm

ok time to hook my ps3 again, i will try the old exploit of launching self files through the other os feature as i still on 1.50, and report back if anything works.

It was funny tomas, in fact their next step when they see that they cannot stop us, will be stopping the ps3 from reading blu ray games, PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of entertainment. like movies and movies, and i guess movies.

we will have a glorified blu-ray player!

it has been said that this dongle will allow hombrew to run, now just how privileged access to the system the homebrew can achieve is not known yet. lets hope its like the psp all over again backups first, then homebrew, then downgraders then custom firmware
