Am I missing something here? Why can't the prepared ISO or Backup files just be transferred from and external USB to Internal HD using the commgenie file manager? Surely that would be quicker and faster??

dumb question

is it possible yet to play games without the disk? My current jailbroken PS3 has a dead laser and i would rather not spend $50+ dollars repairing it. I'm sure some hacker is hacking away at it as we speak if we cannot. Just like the good old PSP days.

As of now, you need an original game in the drive to use backup manager

How do you make a network connection without risking a mandatory firmware update?

you need to root ( jailbreak ) first, that will give you the "install package" option.

Now this is a guess, but I bet you updated your firmware already
