SOLUTION: For people having problems flashing at90usbkey on Vista x64

I was having problems getting windows vista x64 to recognize my at90usbkey. It wasn't allowing me to install the driver that needs to be installed when you enter programming mode. The problem is windows vista x64 does not allow drivers to be installed if they are not digitally signed. The solution is you need to get the signed drivers. Atmel does not include the signed drivers for vista x86. Here are the signed drivers. http://www.avrfreaks.net/index.php?m...842&showinfo=1

I did not sign these so I will not take credit for it. Hope this helps those out that are having the same problem as I did. After I downloaded the file, I went to the directory where flip was installed, went into the usb subdirectory and then created a folder called "old." After that, I moved all the files EXCEPT atmel_usb_dfu_x64.cat file into the directory I created. After that I extracted the signed drivers into the usb subdirectory and then reinstalled the driver in Device Manager successfully. Hopefully this is clear, the process was.

I've read on this forum somewhere that someone (besides myself) was having trouble getting the device into programming mode. If I recall correctly, he was using Windows 7 x64. So, to make a safe assumption, I was say if you are using any Windows 7 x64 then you should download those drivers. Try it and if it doesn't work, download the file.

with windows 7 x64 it tells me "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. if the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based system."

Even after fiddling with the .inf and getting it to accept the driver it will try to install and then say "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Driver is no intended for this platform."

I am about to pull my hair out.

Sigh, I thought I might actually get working drivers for my board. Any help?
