You can change all files as you want, but if you crash something, you will be need to reinstall FW.

hmmm okay if you say so. I can remember back to 1.80 FW days I had this debug fw installed one day by swapping HDD's ... anyway it was useless for me.

It's still not really usefull and far far away from "custom firmware". All you can do is replacing signiged sony apps from retail console by other signed sony apps from debug console. You can't really mess around there and modify apps or whatever, the fw will not work then and not boot (reinstall required). So nothing "custom" here, just replace a few files from debug-firmware will not turn your console into a debug-console. Most of the debug-features will not even work because they also require the hardware from a debug console. We also should not forget that this stuff on your HDD is not the whole PS3 OS ... we still miss LEVEL 1

that was basicly all what I wanted to point out here, that this news-title is not really correct. 2 years ago we already could do that and install debug-fw on our retail consoles, but it did not help at all and most of those debug features did not even work on retail consoles! but well ... if you feel better now that everyone thinks we can install hacked and modified custom firmwares on your console ...

you know why there hasnt been a copy of the dev_flash dumps? the fw once installed is unquely tied to each Console you cant take someoens 3.15 dumps and load it even off usb fw loader on your 3.41 to get back OtherOS. (though you can do that to get otheros if the dumps came from your own console in the first place.) Sony made it this way to combat the use of it to downgrade the FW in any way.

Yes, but some features of Debug FW can real help to homebrew developers.
May be not all features will work.

More information it is good, i think.
