Hi, everyone I got a older ps3 modal that has the 80 gig hard rive in it. Well the blue-ray drive is bad in it and I need some advice. I already know how to replace the drive and all that but what I need to know would replacing the drive fix the problem. Basically, Everything turns on and works fine except the blue-ray drive doesn't except disks. I mean it is like no power is being supplied to the drive. The motor doesn't move or anything. Now do you think replacing the whole laser and motor assembly will work? Or is the controller board bad?
If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. thanks. |

Im still gonna answer this even though it's like a half a year later. If there is no power to the drive at all, at least make sure it's connected. I would also try to make sure every thing else is connected properly. If you can, see if you can get yours hands on another drive of the same model. Cause you don't wanna spend $90 on a new drive to find out that it's the motherboard that's faulty.

Sounds to me like the optical sensor on the disk drive is broke. happened to me before. easy fix. and new optical sensor is only about €10 on ebay.
