But here's my Question. If it's on retail products (DVD's, BD's, etc), what is it about those products that would keep a PS3 from doing that on ANY movie regardless of whether or not it is on physical media? I mean either the signal is there all the time or it's not right? If the signal is there all the time then why does the movie play back when on a retail disk versus a rip of the same movie? Is it possible that buried in the Cinivia signal there is a data burst containing the name of the movie, country code, etc the gets sent to some sort of server to find out if the movie it legit or not? Also, maybe it's triggered by default if it doesn't get an "OK" signal back from said server within x minutes of playing. Maybe that explains why simply unplugging the PS3 from the network doesn't correct the trouble. Has anyone tried that with a confirmed Cinivia protected? Just spit balling here as I have no actual skill when it comes to coding or audio processing.

Downgrade to 3.01

I can confirm that if you downgrade to 3.01 firmware Cinavia will not be in effect.. im trying this on a 40gb fat ps3 although i have a 120gb hard drive in it at the moment.

I was on 3.00 firmware than i upgraded to 3.41 so i could use multiman and play avchds.

i was first on 3.00 from messing around with downgrading noticed cinavia didnt work on this ps3 i thought it had to do with the broken bluray drive it hasda

when i was at 3.41 firmware cinavia came back and watching the other guys showed up half way through the movie and than every 4 seconds after that if i press circle and than x.

so convinced it was the firmware i downgraded back to 3.01( since 3.00 you cant jailbreak it.)

And now i watched the other guys all the way through along with the movie salt. Havent had any problems so far and i hope to stay here. Have fun

Now I'm 100% sure....I have no problem with watching TV shows on my ps3 as the sound is from an HDTV source. Yesterday I was playing social network in dvdrip quality but the audio sucked(like it was captured in cinema) and then I got this cinavia msg.
I would suggest to only download movies from Brip or dvdrip to contol this ****ty system.
This 1.5X thing will not work, you'll end up watching it in PC believe me :D

Need one more trusted detail to know for sure.

O.K. I have read through this thread and there is a lot of arguing. This copyright is agreed to be an AUDIO WATERMARK. It has a specific signature, so no, it does not need the machine to be on the internet to compare audio, that is a completely different technology.

All this does is identify the Audio watermark exists, and once done, which one and checks the hardware device to ensure authorisiation.

So, as said many times, this effects theatre type releases... for sure, at this time.

So why cams, telecines, and R5... Because all of the above have the audio copied from a source that is NEVER intended to find its way onto any hardware other than professional devices, which can contain proper hardware identification strings. (Like the ps3 or BD players).

Cams: obvious that it contains audio from the theatrical release, as it is actually a film of the film.

TS: This is the exact same thing, but is a more direct copy of a professional theatrical release, done with skill and controlling variables, but the audio is once again theatrical release.

R5: You are right, piracy is HUGE in Russia and India, etc.. the is why we have R5's and why the video quality is so good. These are released in these contries ON DVD, even when we are still going into the theatre to see them. The Audio of an R5 is hard coded in the language it is released in, and there are no other audio options. So, to get an english R5, which can have a fantastic DVDrip video, still has to get its audio.. you guessed it... from a theatrical release, usually ripped from a good cam or TS.

DVD's released to the mass market do not contain this theatrical water mark, or store bought would not work in your PS3.

Sadly though, it is only a matter of time before even these have watermarks that can tell subtle differences in the audio and intended audio... but I personally believe this is not the case yet because other than downloads, I can't find any evidence of this yet.

If you read through the forums, people will say 'legitimate DVDrip or BDrip' but no one has said that they bought a dvd/BD and backed it up, and it did not play. No one knows the source for sure of what they download, so my question is:

Has ANYONE made a copy of a DVD or BD THEY ACTUALLY HAVE that has not played?

Now that would be a true problem.

The DRM is there due to demands from MPAA or similar, not due to Sony or iTunes Music Store.
