NOW ONTO THE BAD NEWS There are reports of this bricking Slim consoles, do not attempt to downgrade a Slim console with this method. Older Fat PS3's are reporting no issues. Also, after downgrading with this method, your PS3 will think its a 3.56 console. It is recommended that you downgrade the traditional way afterward to 3.15 firmware, and then upgrade the traditional way to 3.41 official firmware.

I never knew there was a traditional way to downgrade.

to each their own, i'm not bashing 3.41 or insulting those who do choose to downgrade, i just don't want to myself is all.

i meant sony's FWkilldate as yet another update that will make kill homebrew for a matter of time. i'm curious to see what they actually do with it but i'm not gonna upgrade, thats for positive.

Could you please explain how these newer slims bricked when they failed to downgrade? my slim turns on (Green light) for 5 seconds then turns off (No red light) there doesn't appear to be any response via usb ports, so i think its F'd. I don't have a downgrade dongle atm as i originally bought a PSJailbreak dongle and they left the scene. Ive ordered an X3Max but due to the flooding here in Queensland it could be weeks if not months (if it even gets here at all).

After downgrading to 3.41, the only way to get a hacked console is to buy a Microcontroller (Mainly known as a PSJailbreak dongle). Otherwise, the PS3 will remain at 3.41 without a mod.

Are the exact conditions that trigger the blu-ray problem known? And, if I downgrade from 3.55, (to "3.56) then back to 3.41 from there, do I risk tripping it?

Hang on, are you saying that other jailbreak clones (Iphone, TI-84 etc.) are rendered inoperable, and the only remaining option is a USB board? Or did you mean microcontroller as an umbrella term, and I'm just reading too far into this?

Reading to much into it, any device capable of jailbreaking will suffice eg TI-84 iphone etc.
