3.55-Kmeaw Linux

So, i have tried all those images released by various people. good stuff actually. the one that impressed the least was actually the ubuntu from the 1984 guy..

don't get me wrong, impressive to have ubuntu running on the ps3, but the overall experience was downright slaggy and awful.

anyway, just wanted to ask if anyone has come across anything decent to use with asbestOS yet? YDL for ps3 or something? i browse the frontpage of various places several times a day, and snoop around the forums a little.

or maybe somone has any tips for speeding up the 1984 fellows ubuntu? or doing some neat stuff with the khaos linux?

any help\tips\tricks are greatly appreciated!

I take it you havent read the readme provided with the ubuntu that "1984" guy released XD.

It will be slow till you add a swap (not recommended to do an img swap on the internal hdd). Even then, the ps3 has 256mb ram + 256mb video ram, so no matter what you do, its not going to be the fastest experience in the world.

I released the image as its the closest I could get to actual OtherOS but on 3.55 (this release has no rsx driver but has as much of the OtherOS stuff working as I could think of. For that purpose the release is near enough OtherOS for it to be a suitable replacement for general use, (you can use the software rasterizer for 2d emu's @140+ fps), until an rsx driver is made available (you could be in for a very long wait).

If you dont like the release I provided, I suggest you grab kmeaws ubuntu.rar Here (which my release originated from) and install one of the other distro's available in the image. You can then compile what you need, rather than what I have provided precompiled, it may be faster in the long run for you.

i think the release from 1984 guy is pretty decent for the hardware we have available so i don't know what are you trying to say, in fact its most optimized release i found.

madshaun, yes hehe. im very sorry that i forgot your name (even more sorry that i didn't look it up in your post!) don't get me wrong, your ubuntu is the best that has been "released" so far. also ashamed that i didn't read the readme (wait, what? didn't read readme? thats like pissing next to the toilet..) LoL, realising, i just skipped the whole swap part and only saw the gallium part. like many others now, i have just started to try this whole linux thing.

i will read, and ask for help if needed in your thread. MADSHAUN!

close this thread oh dear moderator!
