Didn't this guy reverse engineer copyright material, post it on the internet and then claim he didn't give a rats arse if he went to jail.

You don't understand. This man has chosen to take the battle and fight Sony in court. This, of course, needs funding. This is a raid. He's the tank, and you are the healers.

And actually, what he did is legal under German law. He never spread any games, and research is perfectly fine. He did his thesis on hypervisors, so his work on running Linux on the PS3 hypervisor is covered by the protection for science in the German constitution. Furthermore, putting back Linux on a product that once was sold with Linux support and retroactively taken away is considered self defense in Germany. You're allowed to work around DRM for this purpose.

Yeah pretty much. That kinda pathetic storyline about his mental fight against Sony which imo represented a sorta disoriented and mislead person.

By German law its illegal to circumvent any copy protection mechanism/software. I don't recall Graf releasing any circumvention program/device to run copyrighted material on the PS3...his work was "limited" to running linux so I believe he's in a gray area of the german law....sure hope he wins this.

On the other hand, what sony did by taking away the "Other OS" option is certainly illegal under most laws and falls under false advertisement and fraud!!!

I'm donating as much as I can because I lost my living-room-PC because of Sony taking away the Other OS and I hope they get their asses kicked in court.
And my next console will be from Microsoft...they give people who hack their systems a free t-shirt and not search warrants and law-suits.

I happen to reverse engineer for a living in Germany. I know the law very well. Check §69d UrHG.

And believe me, for a big bully like Sony it is easy to arrange for a search of his house. Just talk to the right court about what a bad guy this person is and how many gazillions you lose every day.

I 100% agree, After all it's germany right?

"if you can't do the time, Dont do the crime" Is irrelevent to this situation, It isn't crime except for us who live under a tight law that im sure the ministers dont give two ****s about with copyright.

Copyright infringement has very little to do with prime ministers and presidents. It's between the company and group who create the material and the group who shares / Reverse engineers the material. (Except for navy/army/top secret material of course).

Now to everyone who says "He shouldn't of done it if he cant handle the time" or anything relating to that, Then think of it this way: If you could and can re-engineer how a program or console works to allow the best outcome of that system not only for you but also for everyone else to use then of course you would do it whether or not you got funds for the work you do, But the main idea behind it all is to get back at the company that produced the product in the first place - Thus leading to a possible court case - Then of course you want something in return (donation) to fight back at the company 'legally' (again) not only for your self but also for the people wanting the 'best' of what that console/app can do.

I'm not talking about a simple buy a CD/DVD and distribute it.

Now you also have to think about what 'maybe' the other party is thinking (reffering to sony) : Your team creates a system, To start off with it's flawless UNTIL something publicly gets released whether it's a CFW or even 'looking into copying a game via linux' (which wasn't succesful back 4 years ago when everyone had concepts on how you could do more than what sony expected). Now we don't know whether the term 'piracy' is why sont is reacting to all this which i personally think is not the case, But it has to be something of the kind. And what you have to do if you were in sonys shoes would be to immediately try and stop the person(s) doing what they're doing to either hide something from us all or to simply STOP 'piracy' and 'legetimate backups' which in my personal belief sony cannot be sure of whether you own the original disc of the CD/DVD/Game or not.

My point is Every side has a story, Whether it's complete and utter BS (Like some would say Sony) or not.

I fully support Devs who create and distribute CFW and the reincarnation of OtherOS.

And as bull**** as all this sounds to most of you it's just my thought and opinion.
