does anyone know where to download copies of nand's as i cant extract a broken one

you don't. you need your backup and if you can't extract, you cannot reflash. the same hardware is required for both operations

Hmm..... I've got a YLOD 3.56 badboy sitting on my desk I was thinking of dumping the nand on it to have a little tinker see what I could find. Hmm.... Would it be possible to dump the NAND from a second PS3 with 3.55 & reflash it on the PS3 with 3.56?

It's something I'm willing to give a shot when I finish my uni semester for summer.
