Still, the emulators will run under Linux, but they aren't optimized for the PS3 (standard it will run everything on the PPU instead of also using the SPU's), and people are already converting those emulators to run under GameOS.. Since you have to use a CFW for Linux, you might as well use the GameOS version opposed to the linux version..
Ok, that's what I was wondering, because if it was possible to run them I would be able to play N64 games and stuff like that. No emulators have been released for them yet for ps3 GameOS, but I know it will come in time. What about emulating a Windows OS on ps3 through Linux, even worth it? From what I gather people have already put Windows 98 on ps3 with DosBoot and it ran slow, just didn't know if running it through Linux would make it work because of it being emulated?

Thank you for info

I'm gonna check google to see if any emulators have been made to run using the PPU for Linux

Here you go: all info about the RSX in combination with hacked nouveau driver which worked before FW 2.10:

http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=11844

However, the first parameter to the lv1_gpu_memory_allocate call sets a limit to the video RAM zone which can be DMA’d from/to. Setting this value to zero equals to ‘no limit’. This is probably due to a missing check in the Hypervisor, as the DMA objects size is specified as using a limit , equal to the size minus 1. Thus a size of zero is actually interpreted as a limit of 2^32-1 bytes (~4GB) by the GPU.
At first glance this would appear to be a security hole. But in actuality it is a feature Sony knows about and has used in official code: size = 0 is the default value in the Linux frame buffer driver, and were this issue properly resolved (0 = no RAM, no access) the official driver would be unable to work. ”

Unfortunately this was patched by Sony after a couple of weeks.

“The 2.10 firmware released on 2007-12-18 does appear to have changed this call so that 0 is now rejected.”
Now if someone knows how to stop rejecting 0 we can go on on the same road as before FW 2.10?
I have looked into graf his bible but am not that smart (just maybe blind?) I can find out if something is in it about this. I remember graf said his bible was 90% complete and I think the RSX makes part of the missing 10%. They have fixed the missing HV check so "all" we have to do is remove their fix?
Bad thing: their is a big hole between 2.0 and 3.55 and Sony has made a lot of changes to their FW's the last 3 years.

So maybe the dev that worked close with graf (hai Sony ) can add this to the "work in progress" also ?

Ok, I have finally succeeded in creating the partition again.

Problem was the guide misses a thing. If we create Vflash region 7 we have to delete it first.

So before resizing first delete Vflash region 7 !!!

if you don't see ps3vflashh at debian disk detection but only ps3vflasha with 43,2 Gb you have to quit and run Create Region 7 again (first time= format, second time not). This time ps3vflashh will be there if everything is allright The drive is already partitioned and formatted with the first time and it won't do it again. It just creates ps3vflashh.

Hope this helps some people

Something makes me think they don't want to insert original PS1 disks at their PS3 drive
It a little misunderstanding emulators don't need (by law) original software. There are times I forget that also, especially when it is that old it isn't for sale anymore, but I do own al system roms

I had this problem after first installing kmeaw. I had to format my hard drive. Also if I tried to restore a backup I would get the same error. It screwed me on a few game saves.

And after reading through all the comments, has anyone tried this with Ubuntu?

I think Cyberskunk mentioned he had that problem, even when he applied the same patches to Rebug 3.55. When he reverted to his previous FW they started working again.
