I don't really know why there trying to do this because mostly the mid level tech people know about that stuff. The average person doesn't even know about IRC more or less about torrents.

it has nothing to do with piracy ... our govt. has always used lies about one thing to control another

i dont care for piracy, this is more then that once this passes they can shut down any site they like, take this one for example they could have it shut down as it helps people hack a intellectual property(IP)

Entertainment Industry Blasted Google’s Opposition to Web Filters

MPAA and RIAA called the Google’s move “baffling”, and accused it of advocating “corporate imperialism”. The industry also claimed that proposed American Internet filter couldn’t be compared to China’s “Great Firewall” at least because China’s filter was neither “bi-partisan” nor “narrowly tailored.”

Once Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt announced that the company was going to oppose any attempts to introduce an American Internet censoring system, the entertainment industry criticized the search giant.

Google argued that implementation of web filters would set a precedent for freedom of speech on the Internet. Therefore, even if the filtering regime was passed into law, the search engine giant would still fight it. In response, the MPAA expressed astonishment at the claim and wondered if the company’s CEO believed that Google is “above the law”.

In the meantime, plans for Internet filtering in the country are still in the early stages. Earlier in May, lawmakers submitted the “PROTECT IP Act”, which suggested to provide the Department of Justice with the authority to force American-based 3rd parties to block access to infringing websites. Google commented on the proposal that this Internet filtering would set a precedent for freedom of speech on the Internet, similar to the “Great Firewall” of China. In addition, the legislation would also put the American government in the hypocritical position of demanding that other countries not filtered the web while the US itself does. For example, the US State Department criticized the Australian authorities for similar plans in their country just two months ago.

A statement made by the country’s Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was probably even more damaging, as it encouraged the private sector to proactively challenge demands of the foreign countries to censor the web. She claimed that the private sector features a shared responsibility to help safeguard freedom of speech. Thus, when the business dealings of the private sector threaten to undermine the freedom of expression, those have to decide what is right, but not just what is profitable. The main question is whether this applies to Google as well, because its opinion was called “baffling”, while the search engine was accused of “not caring about creating a “civilized online ecosystem”.

Just to think of this makes me sick.If anyone out there thinks there above the law it would be the MPAA,SONY,RIAA. now that they got there stupid copyright crap signed by our wonderfull george w bush pevious president .Soon after that, even b4. They flooded torrent sites with fake movie files torrents so people would get tricked into downloading a new movie .Then they would send a letter to the persons isp saying this person downloaded copyrighted material.. This is a damn joke .I feal sorry for kids in there future with these kind of people running the show. By the way i seen a pix of the MPAA with big smiles on there faces when president bush signed the copyright bullcrap for the MPAA. They MPAA are the real bad guys & MIRAA + sony is with these basterds, this is why they also think they can sue anyone & everyone.. ps I hate these people. If this was to happen the world will need to seriously wake up & cancel there internet services this will hurt every compant who makes money on the internet like sony for #1 . then people need to fight to start a huge organized activist type boycott gang .This is not even a bit funny. We will have to find ways by proxy servers like ultrareach.com & use there program ultrasurf ,i used this for other reasons to hide my ip + it is used to be anon + others had used simalar proxys to access p2p sites from schools..some av programs flag these as trojans, but i use ( deepfreeze by faronics ) exelent protection ,any harm like trojans getting on your pc with deep freez enabled . you can just restart your pc & all problems solved .DEEP FREEZ highly recomended to anyone + especially hackers. You can handel trojans on pc with out any risk +execute them with no harm It is almost better than having av... e.t.c.. as long as they feed this copyright crap to the top dogs .This kind of law will pass, if nobody knows or fights against it ..

True but, it would take serious amount of people. I dont want to be a lamer but the people who fight this would have to do this in a complete professional manner .Basicly the words hack/hackers etc ,should stay ANON in the conflict ..Since there was so many attacks latley more than we seen just here on this site . I am not going to lie i was a hard core torrenter movies/pcgames/emulators/N64/MAME/NES/Snes/Sega/+More emus/All,kinds of Software & Cracking/Anything i could get i got. no joke ,Filled hard drives.11 years in it.Then after 9 yrs i get aletter sony ? i just got a ps3 then. A year later a 2nd letter from, isp = sony copyright again ! so 3 strikes i loose my internet = dsl option = very bad connection here. My point i believe sony is monitoring my home network as everyone else. I poked around & found info on my ps3 with my home networks+much more /passwords not encrypted/ my /emails/. I Could have bought alot of stuff. But real reason it becomes addicting !! Then i end up staying up till i cant keep my eyes open.It to me is fun i learned alot messing with cracks/hacks/keygens/activating,learned about computers through hobbys like this--> p2p world fun stuff People who share are not pirates & we dont sell. Real pirates steal + sell. These big shots need to understand this .They put hacking in the same boat as selling for profit .I believe they want control .The way things are looking in the world today with tecnology ,they are abusing the system & violating our rights without them suffering or care. Why should they care they have millions in there banks.. It seems like the one who has the most money these days will win and the loser walks away angry & defeated Some will want payback . I believe hackers will black hat the crap out of everyone who was involved in the cencoring of the internet if passed.. If it would pass i would hope hackers send the message if they dont listen, or even care to think about possable consiquences. If passed could get real dirty/cause a cyber war
