Making a fan faster will heat up the system? The guy who did this mod isn't the idiot in question LOL

To some people they think its a waste of time because its not software related, for those who want to know the temperatures generated by their ps3, this is important for hardware longevity and those who want to dissipate heat efficiently and find faults that could be resolved.
Monitor cpu temps with different games, homebrew etc,
it would be more popular if homebrew access these sensors

What exactly is the purpose of this?

The cooling system for the PS3 is more than adequate for the purpose of which it is intended.

YLOD is not caused by a heating issue. It is commonly caused by the use of lead free solder and warpage of the PCB due to excessive moisture.
