...And as long as you are running it on Android to facilitate voice controls, there are a ton of other cool features you could add too...although you will have to strip out all those LEDs to make room for the 20" LED touchscreen.
Once you have all that done, you could make it so it does a hard reboot everytime you say, "FALLOUT LOCKED UP AGAIN". |

What sort of heat rating LED's did you use? For my own mod a year or so ago, I used LED's strips (making the mod fully reversible without any damage to the ps3's casing), the LED's I used are cold even when on for long periods of time. The reason im asking is with the potential of extra heat from the LED's it would also increase the risk of a YLOD.
Also just to add, very nice work, im now tempted to redo my mod slightly and find a use for my minimus dev board, as I have 12v going to the LED's from the bluray power supply, and 5v running from usb to the PulseVU 2X. I may take the pulsevu off leaving it connected to the LED's on top then use the minimus with the front LED's (under the memory card reader flap), and create a knightrider type effect :D |

I have some SMD LED strips, where did you put yours, since mine won't fit under the sliding cover. Mine are water proof it that helps. The LEDs won't increase the chance of YLOD, the case actually like a heatsinc (not a good one but it helps.) Most of the heat just warms the top of the case and the tape around the LEDs. Since the LEDS are no where near the motherboard or the chips on the MB they are not heating them up much. Also the added fan speed helps. You can see by the temperature sensor that it is cool (reasonably) in there as other PS3 go a lot hotter. Look at Killerbugs blog. |

He said that his LED strips make no heat and are thin enough to fit in practically no space...sounds more like EL than LED.

This is a vid of my mod in action,
YouTube - ‪requested (ps3 led mod vid)‬‏ I couldnt find a pic of the LED's unlit on the ps3, but heres a pic of the ps3 before I put the top cover back on, This is a pic of the LED strips used for the mod, ![]() and for more info on the LED strips, check here http://www.maplin.co.uk/dc-12-v-led-strip-218015, I chose to go this way, as I didnt fancy cutting the ps3's casing, the fit is a bit tight, but the top cover will slide back over depending on LED placement. |

interesting they look exactly like the strips i have, i don't know how you fitted them.
Maybe its because you have a 60gb? Is the whole of your ps3 top case translucent? or just the sliding cover? |

The LED's are fitted directly under the sliding cover on the inner part of the top cover, the sliding part of the case is the only translucent part (apart from the memory card reader flap). I found that if you avoid certain parts of the case (near the holes on the inner cover) the sliding cover will fit back over (with a little pressure applied as you slide the case over) but it is an extremly tight fit.
I have also done this type of mod on a family members ps3, his was a 40gb model so I had to hide the Pulsevu inside the inner casing (I attached it to the back of the BD unit), the sliding case was exactly the same. |

nice, i know that there is some room there because my LEDs stick out into it but i did not think you could get led strips in there. Maybe my led strips are fatter because of the water proof rubber coating.
I suppose the only downside of the strips is that you can't form complicated shapes like my ps logo. but they should work nicely for the 7 segment display. killerbug, i'm looking forward to how you do your final mod |

just added another 2 strips to my mod, will upload some pics in a few...
Edit: Pic of the ps3 with the LED's fitted but off... LED's off with slide cover off.... LED's on slide cover off... LED's on and the slide cover on... Also incase your wondering about the black tape, I've taped the memory card reader flap shut as the PulseVU 2X is under it, with a wire for USB looped out of the side, which makes it stick up a bit (the tape holds it down making it look that slight bit better), The block of tape to the the right of the memory card reader flap hides a switch that controls the different modes for the PulseVU (Pulsing, Reactive, on and off etc...). |
