Question PS3 scaling with LCD monitor

I recently bought this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824254028 monitor to use with my PS3 through HDMI and found out after receiving it that it has no hardware scaling options. The monitor is 1680X1050 (16:10 aspect ratio) and PS3's HD signal is 1920X1080 (16:9 aspect ratio). I've been looking for a way to change the scaling for the screen because what happens now is it either upscales or downscales the video to fit the screen horizontally and then stretches it to fit vertically, which makes the picture look, well, stretched.

If anyone has any information on a program or anything that is available for PS3 to change the video scaling please let me know. This monitor is great and has everything I'm looking for except the scaling so I don't want to return it just for that. It would be great if there was a way to change it. TIA

I was hoping there was some kind of mod that could be installed in the XMB to change video options like 1:1 pixel mapping, etc. similar to some GPU driver software for PCs. Is it possible to make a mod like that? If not, would I have to wait until Sony updates the firmware with it?

there should be an option in the monitors menu, my 940BW has one, it stops it from stretching but every time a 1080p image / game is run i have to press ok om the monitor. the setting should be called image scaling(or something like that).
If there isnt one, try set the PS3 to display 720p see if it helps.
As for programs there may be one for linux but that will only work while you are in linux, once you exit it will stretch once again.
sorry i cant be of more help.
