in this case it is faking the ps3's firmware only to block unwanted updates.

Yeah that is where I got my tasks from. Just my recommendation to use the ReBug spoof as it can be installed/uninstalled and used on any MFW without having to make your own and having it permanently stuck like that. I have made 3 MFWs for this site. Two of them have the 3.66 spoof. Version 3 has the spoof removed to make way for spoofers that can be installed and uninstalled.
