my psu was about 500w and i used 1x 12v
im not sure about using 2x 12v for more wattage as i never needed to but if you have a 400 w you might need to ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* your psu might have a sticker telling you how many watts the 12v line is. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* also i would wire from the main atx plug not the other bits ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* just another thing the ps3 needs about 350w of power

hey man, behind my ps3 psu, which is a 60 GB model, is written it has 12V 32 amp and 5v 3amp output... but shouldn't that thing have a 3.3 volts out too? And, i found a 350 W pc psu, but it says 12v line out is max 15 amp, will that work? i suppose it won't, am i right?

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with a PSU which has atleast 33A altogether on the 12V rail and is 75%+ efficient (if it's branded and has the stuff I mentioned then I would say it will Definety felt work, by branded I mean antec, corsair, seasonic, ocz etc.)

If you want to work out wattage it's simply current (Amps) times voltage (V) gives wattage then divide by 100 and times by efficiency (non-branded psus can have efficiencies as low as 60%! but most should be around 70+% and branded should be 80+).

ok i read up a bit..
using multiple 12v lines wont make a difference, if your 12v line is max 18A thats all it will pump out regardless of how many 12v lines connected to the ps3 you need a decent psu and all should be good as i said i used mine to test for faulty ps3 psu.... i had nothing connected to ps3 so i wasnt using many amps at all ************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
and what would you need the 3.3v for??

The 3.3V is a signal from the PS3 to the power supply to signal it to turn on...it is not a supply voltage and it is low current.
A note on 12V rails...you don't want to mix them on a single device. You can run the bluray and the mainboard of different 12V rails, but you don't want to run all of your 12V rails together to a single point like the 12V pin of the mainboard...if you could do this, the PSU would come like that. Most quality PSUs have a single 12V rail anyway...you mostly only get more rails if the PSU is low quality or if it is very high current (like those 1200W monsters). |

i see... mine must be low quality then, it has 2 12v rails... but as it only supports a max of 300W on the 12 v line it won't be good, i need 384W at least, as under the ps3 psu is written it goes as far as 32 amps...

as long as you bridge the pc psu you won't need to mess with it. that's all

Wait...you are not using the 3.3V to activate a relay? How to you make it turn itself on and off?
