PS3 doesn't read DISC after new blu-ray

Guys,

A friend of mine bought a used PS3 that was broken. The owner told him it was the blu-ray that wasn't working annymore. Since i got a little bit more brains for this kind of stuff he asked me to help him fixing it. So i opened the PS3 and the blu-ray by using movies on Youtube. Then i discovered that several parts were missing in the blu-ray.

So waiting to order new parts for the blu-ray i tried it with my own blu-ray. This one is complete and is fully working on my PS3. Both PS3's are 40 gig phat models. I installed my own fully working blu-ray in the PS3 of my friend and tried to launch him. The PS3 starts correct but when i enter a disc i hear the blu-ray working but the game doesn't appears in the XMB under GAME.

I used my own cable to connect the blu-ray to the PS3 so it can't be the cable or the full blu-ray because it's still working for my own PS3.

Does annybody know what the problem can be?

Hopefully someone can help me.

thx in advance

Did you use the board from the original drive? You have to use the original board, as it is paired to the motherboard.

I just toke the whole Blu-ray station and installed it in the other PS3. So i didn't swapped the motherboards...

So that should be the problem then? And i only can solve this by using other parts from a blu-ray drive and put them in the original blu-raystation from the ps3 that is broken.

So if you did only swap the Blue ray drive and hooked up your friends ps3's bd controller board to your blue ray drive then an additional problem resides in your friends BD controller board or some other place in his PS3 like the motherboard, assuming your Blue ray drive does work. If you set up the test like this then remarrying the board isnt necessary. I would check the connections on the board to the blu ray drive and the connections on the board to the motherboard. You can also put your friends laser in your BD to see if it is functional assuming it is the same model PS3. Connections of the BD drive controller are a typical problem if the Blu ray drive works on ps3 and not another.

P.S. be weary of experimenting with your BD parts and adding them to his. I personally messed up the eject on one of my functional drives and could not get it aligned until recently. Several attempts with many hours. I might be a pendejo about it though so just be careful...

EDIT: I noticed you said you didn't swap the motherboard, make sure you do not swap the BD controller board that is attached on the bottom of the BD Player.

So to be clear.... If i want to use my disc-station in the ps3 of my friend i need to screw off my bd controller board of my disc-station and use his own bd controller board that i need to screw on my disc-station? Correct me if i'm wrong

Send a message via MSN to pbanj
in order to play game you need to have the controller board from your blu-ray drive, you have to put it into the new bluray drive or it wont work

Yea that's correct. Each bd controller board is specific to that individual ps3's motherboard. So if u didn't switch the bd controller board Ur friends ps3 will not recognize your bd controller board unless u were to remarry Ur controller board to his motherboard. Of course it's easier to just unscrew the board and swap them like u said. See if that works. I personally would also try putting Ur friends bd drive with Ur bd controller to make certain whether his drive works.

If Ur ps3 with his drive works and his ps3 with your drive doesn't u will know that the problem is somewhere else in his ps3

But what about between types of Blu Ray drives? I have one with an external board(works but system is YLOD), and one without(dead, but system is 3.66). Can they be swapped?
