Sony postponed release a couple of weeks to build up stock.

PlayStation Vita is due for Japanese release on December 17. Sound a bit late in the year for a major hardware release? It turns out that Sony had originally planned a slightly early release. In an interview with Weekly Famitsu this week, Sony Computer Entertainment president Hiroshi Kawano disclosed that the system was originally planned for a December 3 release -- 12/3. They opted for the 17th, giving up up on the cute number play along the way, in order to make sure they'd have enough hardware stock for the release. Kawano assured that Sony is putting its full effort in preparing hardware stock for launch. While Kawano did not give Famitsu a precise number for the system's shipments, he previously told Reuters that he expects the first 500,000 systems to sell out quickly. The first 500,000 3G models include 100 hours of free 3G usage (Kawano's conversation with Reuters following Tokyo Game Show). Also in the Famitsu interview, Kawano emphasized that vita is a game machine first and foremost -- it's not a smartphone. He said that Sony sided with NTT DoCoMo as the system's Japanese 3G provider because of the stability of NTT's network.

I doubt they will cover selling in the expected time even the half of those.
The days such things were happening with Sony consoles it's over already, it's just past, history, how it's called?...

The chances of this thing being hacked anytime soon is slim to none. The PS3 held out for a long time. Sony also learned quite a harsh lesson with the PSP mess.

Top execs are always a-holes, pretty much no matter what company you look at. MS, Ninty, etc. But for me, Sony products have always worked as expected if not better. I can't say anything close to that for MS.

I never said a word about hacking or anything, I say that they expect to sell way too many consoles in their predicted period, which is completelly delusional, especially in the period of the economic crisis, plus the fact that many people are mad with Sony and they will boycoot any product coming with their logo on it and that people are not impressed by it's price (you can buy a PS3 with the same money) and it's available at launch tittles (there is no reason to hurry to buy it at launch if the games you like will come later giving you the possibility to buy it at a lower price too) making all of these people I described nearly to a majority.

The days that Sony could expect to sell that much consoles in this predicted period is O-V-E-R. These days innevitably belong to the past and on top of that they did their best to push this to happen even worse.
I have zero doubt about this happening, it's obvious, look around on the net the media and all, there is somekind of a hype, but nothing compared to the hype of the launch of PS2, PS3, PSP, DS, 3DS etc. Nothing.

This is for the Japanese release mainly. THEY ADORE the PSP, so they will sell like hotcakes in Japan. Remember that the PSP released with the same price tag, but less inflation, so it cost more than the PSV will to us now. The PSV is not being released anywhere else in 2011, the US is getting it in 2012.

Yes but actually you kind of enforced what I said above. 500.000 consoles only in Japan! This is a joke... Not to mention again the economic crysis. Also, I thought Japan adored the (3)DS... ...my bad...
Also I don't think they will adore it's price at all, it's the most pricy portable console being released to date. Japan is not known to adopt pricy consoles. They would have loved the PS3 too since its more or less on the same price as PSV...

I see that saying Japan has a totally different view on things is pointless. Japan has pretty much had the PS3 outselling the less pricy 360 for years (which has lead to the recent cancellation of the 360 in the Japanese market). So your point there is moot.
