multiMAN v02.08.01 New tests results:

- Final Fantasy VII [NTSC / US] - Detected / Run OK
- Final Fantasy VIII [NTSC / US] - Detected / Run OK
- Capcom vs SNK 2000 PRO [NTSC / US] - Detected / Run OK
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night [NTSC / US] - Detected / Run OK
- The King of Fighters '99 [NTSC / JAPAN] - Detected / Run OK

All these disc are burn at 4x using very cheap discs (Maxell / Memorex), I made sure they were proper dumps, bad dumps could have different results and not work at all, so verify your disc images before burning, I've been using Alcohol 120% to burn them, but ImgBurn should be ok as well.

There is no need to use Disc Swap or Breaker Pro now .

In my personal experience my PS3 is not presenting any weird sounds while reading the backup discs, if you experience this, then make sure you are burning your disc well, look for information online on how to burn PS1 disc correctly, there are many guides online. Make sure as well that the disc image you're using has been flagged as a good dump, making dumps from scratched discs will definitely cause trouble.

Thanks to @deank for this great release!

SeeYa!

Someone was reporting Audio problems with "Megaman X4", so here you have my test results...

MegaMan X4 [SLUS-00561] - Detected / Runs OK / SFX + BGM OK

Make sure you get a proper dump of the disc image [should be around 564MB]. Then burn using the CUE file with ImgBurn at 4x (600KB) speed.

Another one ...

Final Fantasy IX [U] [SLUS-01251] - Detected / Runs OK

SeeYa!

Just tried a burned Rock Man X 3 (NTSC-J) on an American PS3 Slim and it worked flawlessly! Keep in bind that the black borders when on a full screen setting will remain there whether it is on multiman or on the official ps3 xmb. Im not sure if it is my bravia hdtv but this seems to be the case for all my official and burned psx games.

Arrow Reason for black screen with PS1 backups CD-R discs

Reason for black screen with PS1 backups CD-R discs

Just confirmed something, there are bad dumps of PS1 game discs around. They may work with emulators on the PC and such but when put on the real console or in this case the PS3 they give problems.

The bad dumps usually have been ripped incorrectly, and for example a good disc image dump of "MegaMan X6 [SLUS-01395]" has these properties "MODE2/Form1/2352" as many (if not all) the PS1 discs.

I found out a bad dump of the same game "MegaMan X6 [SLUS-01395]" with these properties "MODE1/2352", after burning and testing the disc image 2 times, the result was a black screen after trying to boot the game using multiMAN v02.08.01 (XMMB / File Manager) not even the PS1 logo came up, and Swapping disc or using "Breaker Pro" didn't work at all.

So I decided to test this "bad dump" on the PC with pSX 1.13 emulator, and it worked there, because the emulator doesn't actually care about the disc format, the emulator just looks for a disc drive to get the contents from, so basically if there are bugs in game, they might not even be related to the emulation, the one responsible for the bugs in this case would be the disc image.

Now, after I burned the proper dump "MODE2/Form1/2352" to the 3rd CD-R disc and tested it on multiMAN v02.08.01 everything went smoothly

I hope this helps people getting black screen after burning backups to CD-R discs.

EDIT: No wonder why Cobra have this on their Documentation:

Allowed format are:
· Iso (mode 2/2352).
· Cue+bin. Data track must be mode 2/2352.
Cue+bin+wav is not supported: audio tracks in wav files are ignored.
SeeYa!
