Question 3.6.0 Bricked PS3 Recovery

Fat old skool PS3
CHECHA01

I'm helping my bro fix his ps3 which bricked after the 3.6.0 update.
There is no video or XMB & unfortunately, his HD was zero wiped, so it needed reformatting.
When going into recovery mode, and to update firmware, it states it needs 3.6.0, or newer version. Hence why I think its 3.6.0 firmware currently on the device.
With most recent firmware (3.7.2) on a USB stick, it formats the drive, then says it will reboot and update the firmware...which it proceeds with the format, finishes, boots to a black screen and just hangs there with the green power light on.
It never does anything from there, and with the HD in the now formatted state that it is in, I can't get back into recovery mode unless I wipe it again.

I understand if I can get another ps3 with working 3.6.0, I might have a chance to format the drive, then move back over....But that sounds nigh impossible...So.....any further advice?

just thought i tell you even if you put the hhd into another ps3 to formate it and then reput it into the bricked ps3 it will still formate it again because the ps3 wont acept another hdd from a diffent ps3 unless it formate its self then it will accept it as the ps3 will put it own settings and files .

Would suck if it all it needed was for you to hold the power button down to reset video settings. Well I guess that would not suck.

I have reset it multiple times, and video settings are fine...Just won't boot into XBM. I'm pretty certain its due to buggy 3.6.0 firmware.

Faulty HDD? My stock one was... (Yet another thing that Sony can't do correct, find a good HDD for gaming that needs constant read/write access and that it isn't not prone to faulty formatting)
