So it looks that you two found out what it needs to get patched on the kernel which means that we need to make a new FW right?
Any other updates you can give?
Maybe I could help you with something?

Although a MM CFW would be great (no more booting MM through Sony's XMB), the amount of time and effort might not be something he'd be willing to invest in and also he's making software not a CFW. I think he'd probably create a work around of some sort instead.

In any case we might hear more about this when JFW comes out as we can work with a CFW that supports backups without the dongle, removing a roadblock.

You don't understand, in order to use these features a CFW is an innevitable option, lv2 and kernel need to be modified. There is no other path for this solution.

Be interesting to see if deank will pursue this further, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much. Especially on the PS2 side of things since he uses a slim.

If anyone is curious how good is the full software emulator here's an example:
Silent hill: Origins [PS2 on PS3 Slim using Cobra] - YouTube
After seeing this I'm getting more and more eager to find a way or help for finding a way to work around this.
I mean seriously, for a machine with 256mb System RAM and 256 VRAM this quality of emulation is unbelievable.
My PC with better specs, 2 times bigger VRAM and 32 times bigger RAM it can barelly handle at 24fps that game...
Sony really know how to code stuff using software equipment that is not publically available (that PCSX2 for that reason can't optimize that well).
Now I'm more eager to get the source code of this emulator, I hope somebody will decompile it or get the source code from a possible 2.50 SDK...
My hopes for deank and CaptainCPS-X will work on a solution are up too!

The only thing they can't seem to code is random number generators lol

Hahahaha, true, but this was because of something depended also by a hardware piece that has nothing to do with Sony...
I think this emulator is based on let's say what they used as development kits or something to use PS2 games on PC.
It's source code must be very ''influenced'' from those software they used.

Since it seems you're a bit confused, let me leave something clear @VIRGIN KLM (with all due respect), a program that has been compiled, will never return to being a 'source code' again.

Here is why...

Decompiler

A decompiler is the name given to a computer program that performs, as far as possible, the reverse operation to that of a compiler. That is, it translates a file containing information at a relatively low level of abstraction (usually designed to be computer readable rather than human readable) into a form having a higher level of abstraction (usually designed to be human readable). The decompiler does not reconstruct the original source code, and its output is far less intelligible to a human than original source code.
And here is the main reason...

Compiler

A compiler is a computer program (or set of programs) that transforms source code written in a programming language (the source language) into another computer language (the target language, often having a binary form known as object code). The most common reason for wanting to transform source code is to create an executable program.
Compilers bridge source programs in high-level languages with the underlying hardware. A compiler requires 1) determining the correctness of the syntax of programs, 2) generating correct and efficient object code, 3) run-time organization, and 4) formatting output according to assembler and/or linker conventions. A compiler consists of three main parts: the frontend, the middle-end, and the backend.
Believe me if programs could be turned back to source code there would be millions of clone application floating around, and cracking applications would be a walk in the park xD.

Another thing, the PS2 emulator source code is not available in any SDK, it is distributed as it is (binary) with every PS3 console, the most that can be done with it is decrypt it and other stuff that Im not gonna get into detail.

Btw, I don't think this research is going further as we have done all we can (at least for now). So personally I have moved to do other kind of research.

If for some reason I find more about this I will keep this thread updated .

EDIT: Imagine how hard I tried to make PS2 Backups run on Kmeaw that at some point my PS3 stopped accepting original PS2 discs LOL, it seems that the Cobra payload changed something internally, so basically I had to reinstall the FW again to fix the mess.

SeeYa!
^^

Sony have a full teams of professional developers and do not have to reverse engineer the PS2 in order to create an emulator. A sony made emulator can not be compared to a hobbyist emulator like PCSX2.

The xbox 360 fully emulates the originals xbox and the PS3 is more than capable of fully emulating the original PS2. It has to have been a consious choice from sony not to continue developmet on a full software ps2 emulator.
