[rant]P0136...catalytic converter too efficient
A couple weeks ago I got a decent price on a performance cat for my car...I figured it would give me just a little bit of back-pressure to get a bit of torque so I jumped on it. A few minutes ago the check engine light came on so I plugged in my bluetooth scanner, and got the most annoying code I have ever seen!
P0136...low voltage from O2 sensor. In essence, this means that the new converter is working so much better than the stock converter that the car computer says something is wrong, and goes into a reduced performance/increased fuel consumption mode!!! When I get home this converter is hitting the floor and the test pipe is going back on...if Toyota computers hate clean exhaust so much that they will pour in extra fuel when clean exhaust is detected, I might as well just go with the flow and have dirty exhaust. Actually, I shouldn't blame Toyota...this "feature" is mandated by the federal government for god knows what reason.[/rant] |

O2 sensors are usually an airbox/intake problem aren't they? Especially on Toyota's.

This is just the sensor after the cat converter; it is there to test the converter efficiency and nothing else. There are other sensors in front of the converter and those are just fine (if there was an airbox or MAF problem, it would be one or both of these that reported problems). In theory, the post-cat sensor is there to detect if the cat has lost efficiency...but in this case, it is complaining because the cat is working too well. I already pulled the new cat off and stuck the old test pipe back on...used my phone to reset the check engine light, installed the 02 sensor simulator, and everything looks good.

Ah, yes I was thinking of MAF.
Been playing with my netbook plugged into my bike's ECU lately, good fun. I ran over a cat doing 70kph (45MPH) on the way to work this morning so now I have bigger fish to fry.

Yeah, used it to disable the exhaust (EXUP) valve as it was becoming erratic.
And yes, I fell. Trashed my jacket, work pants, shoes, backpack and have some nice scratches and missing parts on my motorcycle. Thank fick there was no oncoming traffic as I slid into the other lane as I watched the sparks fly.

its not a matter of "if" you go down but "when" you go down. because it will happen sooner or later. |

Do you know what hospitals call riders? Organ Donors...even the nurses that ride call themselves organ donors!
...But what good is life if you can't do what you love? |
