Exclamation Can You Help Where Others Have Failed ?

Hi guys

I've softmodded a few wii’s but I'm a complete noob when it comes to softmodding my ps3.

My ps3 the is the fat one on firmware 3.15.

All the guides I've read say that ill need to keep a game disc in the ps3’s drive while playing game off the hard drive, The problem with that is my ps3’s drive doesn't work.....lol

So I've asked on a few forums if its possible to play games without having to keep a disc in the drive and one of the replies said that it is possible if i “use modified eboots” to launch games from the XBM

Now as a noob this make no sense and i can find out any info on what it means

My other question is......

How do i go about putting the games on the internal hard drive. Would i put the files onto a usb stick?

Thanks for any help given

You can play many games discless with multiman I would suggest an older version so you will have copy and paste unless you use ftp. eboot's are easy to learn about. If ur drive doesn't work you would have to get the games in digital form i.e. download then and play off external or transfer to internal. PM me if more is needed

Wow thanks guys

Just a couple of questions....

As my ps3 has never been modded, will i need to update the firmware to the official 3.55 then the hacked 3.55?

How do i go about getting the game files onto the internal hard drive?

Thanks again

Pretty sure that if your PS3's BD drive is busted you need to use MFW builder to create your own BD disabled MFW... 3.55 OFW will freeze during the update if I'm not mistaken. That said, normal practice would dictate you should update to 3.55 OFW before MFW, but in your case, that may not be possible. Best solution would be to replace the BD drive. Riskier(read: not recommended) solution would be to install 3.55 BD disabled MFW directly from current FW. Either way, my memory may be off. Try to update to OFW first, and if it fails, go for a BD disabled MFW.

As for getting files onto your PS3, when you install a CFW or MFW, it enables a menu option called "install package files", which will automatically detect any *.pkg files in the root of a USB device, formatted FAT32, which you'd need to install CFW/MFW in the first place. Good luck, and I hope that helps. =)

Edit: Also, about getting games on there, you can get backup managers like multiman that let you copy the game to internal or external hard drives. Multiman also has a built-in file manager, which allows you to manipulate files like you would on a computer (copy, erase, move, rename, etc)

Thanks for taking the time to do that write up

Why would it make a difference if the drives working or not?

What i mean by this is.....

I think its the laser that's stopped working, so to the ps3 everything is working ok until i try and load a game.

Or do i need to have a game in the drive to do the update?

Thanks again

It can cause an update loop, wherein you get stuck. As much as I dislike psx-scene, this thread might help you out: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f149/blu...nations-78481/

Thanks again for your replies

I had a quick read of that thread, and it seems like you get in the update loop if you remove the dvd drive.

Would it still happen if the drive is connected but the laser is faulty?

So I've been doing a bit more reading.....lol

And from what I've read. if the ps3 has a working drive then i would....

1.Upgrade my firmware from 3.15 to the official 3.55

2. Upgrade from official 3.55 to kmeaw 3.55

3. install multiman

But if i have a faulty hard drive then i would need to....

1. Upgrade my firmware from 3.15 to official 3.55

2. upgrade from official 3.55 to warrens patched kmeaw 3.55

3. install multiman

Does this all sound about right?

If so... How would i install the official 3.55 without it going in to an update loop ?
