If not PS3 thinks it's a PS3 game, it doesnt trigger a PSP emulator.
The thing is that PSP games need to get transformed to minis folder and file structure not PS3 game and folder structure. It's a common fault people did/do, myself included.
The mini's logo does not show up after boot, it just black screens, then returns to XMB.

One tip when playing with .sfo
Note that the system stores a copy of the last launched content (param.sfo pic0.png and im not sure if some more) as a "fast access" to this content

You need to reboot the console and run another content to "refress" the cached files and to "force" the system to load the new (edited or replaced) ones

It's not the method, it's that IF Angry Birds show up on XMB and after the name it doesnt have that icon/logo, PS3 thinks it's a PS3 game and handles it as a PS3 game.

It sounds like your close.
I assume the Cobra PSP emulator is coded to mount PSPISO's from HDD0/PSPISO.
Shouldn't there need to be a hook and redirect in the firmware somehow to this location?
I assume this is what the cobra firmware/backup mananger is already doing for all ISO types.
If the iso.edat.bin is really launching the emulator then you should see a PSP ISO mounted from that location,
given that the correct redirects are in place.

I think the .edat encryption is only being used to prevent the file from being manually decrypted.

Yes but none of the available backup loaders can mount an ISO file plus even if they don't I don't know which syscalls it uses. If you successfully mount a game instead of a NO GAME icon the gane's icon should appear on the Launcher. Also I found out that the launcher is a homebrew Minis tittle/app... (TOIN)
Ok now I have seen everything...
