Hello Everyone.

There is a way to play PS2 games on all PS3, on every firmware, including 3.72 tested by me.

If you remember a few years ago, in the begining of ps3 scene, we saw the first steps to enter on Service Mode.

Well, after that, no one as ever talk about it..

When sony anounced the PS2 classics on USA PSN store, then i started to think, how could that be possible if PS3 after 60GB and 80GB(USA), to play PS2 games, if, i thought, it wouldnt have any "emulator".

Sony says the games are in there original form, no changes, no trophies, no remaster, etc...

I decided to test with my jailbreak pen, on entering on service mode, on my PS3 80GB and a 160GB slim of a friend, if it was possible.

I tested the GT4original) and PES 6(backup with swap magic) on those 2, and they all worked just fine, GT4 is able to go 1080i, and other 3 more games, that i dont remember the names in this moment.

Then i posted a tutorial on a portuguese tracker, as im portuguese, for that, im sorry if my english is not good.

And i decided to test it on 3.72 with a progskeet, and if you remember a game called, if im not wrong Rayman, it was the first video i saw that time on youtube, invisible caracters, walls, well, complete buggy lool.. I think that time we were stil on 2.40, or something like that. I've tested the same game on FW 3.55 and 3.72.

On 3.72 works perfectly well on the slim, on 3.55 stil as some glitchs, but it is well playable, lets say a rate of 96% on 3.55?

I havent tested yet the save option, forgot completly about it, but i will try and see if also works.

Hope to see it on front page maybe, and some one to test it.

HOW TO ENTER SERVICE MODE:

You'll need a pen downgrader, search the forum, or buy one, or have an android phone / iphone, ipod nano or Nokia N900, etc ...

1) Unplug or switch off the console and then reconnect or connect the cable again

2) connect the device OFF Still Jailbreak / Downgrading and press POWER, then quickly eject, your PS3 should automatically shut down

3) Re-connect your PS3 to see if you're in service mode (you'll see a big red box, informing you that are in service mode)

HOT TO LEAVE SERVICE MODE:

4) For now leave service mode, turns to do the above steps, but you have to use a pen in fat32 formatted, the 2nd usb port, together with the pen jailbrek, with the file "Lv2diag.self (FILE 2)" - -> CLICK HERE TO GET THE FILE <-. (This was the fastest link i could find, it as all files needed to downgrade.. If i found, i'll add just the file link with the only file needed, sorry! If possible, someone post a link only for the necessary file? thanks, sorry)

MD5: 7A20BFDAE65EEFB47A4425DB1B52DCDE Lv2diag.self (FILE 2) - To confirm the fidelity of it, if you need.

For backups, at least the way i play ps2 games, is with my ps3 and the reader open, so i can swap the disc.. You can just put an original game, dont need to have swap magic.. Let the PS3 read that there is a game on the drive.. Dont eject it, you can wait for the dvd to stop, or you can stop it with your own hands, and swap it, and start the backup.. As the PS3 already saw that there is a PS2 original game on the drive, you just need to start it.

Sorry if im not explaining in a good english, as im portuguese =)

I dont know if there is a way to remove the swap magic, without opening the PS3, thats way i only know this method.

I would apreciate some feedback from who test it, and coment what games are working for them, and if you find glitchs, or other things.

have you testted this on Codebreaker ect like my 80 wont read my CB as a valid disc have u tested that?

I only have Swap Magic 3.6; so, i'm sorry, i can't test it.

This only works on Service Mode.. on normal mode, the PS3 says that PS2 discs are not suported, or something like that.

On service mode, i don't see any protection about PS2 games, funny, but hey, better for everyone in the scene, i believe.
At least for me it was awesome to test it.

As i've said, you dont need swap magic, ou any boot disc like that.

Just put an original game, if you have the ps3 opened, and drive also, swap an original game, for a backp of any game, and you can enter and leave to the xmb, and swap for another backup, without having to start the method again.

Would it be possible to extract the 3.72 self for use on 3.55? Having no luck putting my slim into service mode using ps3jig. Service mode's something I've never tried before.

Thanks.. I've tested myself a few days ago, and i've posted, as i said on the the treath, on the famous portugues tracker "btnext.com", and everyone tested. So, today, i decided to post it here, to see what everyone thinks, and games they can test, and comment.. This is my favorite scene website, and as i didn't find any tutorial or material about this, i've created this to inform everyone.

I haven't posted this anywhere else, just on a portuguese tracker.

So, this is almost, and i hope to stay like an exclusive to ps3hax.

I know that this is nothing "out of ordinary", but, i think it is good news.

Maybe on front page, if some moderator test this, and make it news.

If i was better at english, i could try to help you on a smal tutorial to enter on service mode. Maybe someone on the forum can help you better, sorry.

About your question, honestly i don't know, i'm no "hacker", just a normal user, that decided to try something new.

Maybe deank, or other dev in the forum can tell you more.

I am a noob so could someone plz tell me how to get into service mode plz ? I have a 3.55 and a 3.72.
