The PC version has packed files so in order to hack them you need to unpack, replace the files of the mod, and pack them back. In the PS3 version all files are instead of a hige pack, all are categorized in small categories and packed. It's just that I can't spot/understand them, though I'm 100% sure once they get extracted, they are identical to the PC version.

I never knew that you can do that on the PS3 version of the game!
Can you PM me the way to do that? Are you able to use Excella, Barry and Josh too? Do I need RE5 or RE5GE?
Well in RE4 it's that they need to have the animations depended on the Story Mode like the animation that Leon catched Ashley from a higher level.
Note that the PS3 version of the game has the debug txt files.
Once you can trigger them to work, you can do many crazy stuff on the game, one of them is select any kind of character in Story Mode in any kind of combination and any kind of stage, Leon, Leon + Ashley, Hunk, Hunk + Ashley, Ada, Ada + Ashley, Kruzer, Kruzer + Ashley, Wesker, Wesker + Ashley, Ashley alone (All costume combinations too). Once you reach a gun or an action that the character you selected doesnt have an animation for it, the character most of the times stays in T stance while using/performing it. Some rare cases is
that the character uses a different model for the gun you selected while the audio and in practice it's the gun you selected.(example Wesker with Rocket Launcher (red) results Wesker with Magnum that fires rockets!)
I'm not yet sure how I can trigger the debug menu to work, but I'm sure the EBOOT.BIN is responsible for enabling it.

Also note that, RE5 uses the bone structure of scripts to every skin/character you place on it's bone,(side effect is the badly morphed faces of characters that got swapped bone structure) let's say something like WWE Smackdown or Saints Row series.

I think the character model swaps for RE5 work for either version, the regular and RE5 Gold--I have Gold. I think you could technically swap in any character from mercenaries--I think that somewhere in one of the links I have below that someone talks about using Excella in place of Jill in Lost in Nightmares, though I never tried that. I've only tried Wesker, Battle Suit Jill, and Rebecca, all in the main game.

I haven't looked at this stuff in a few months, so I can't quite remember the whole process, but I just dug up the thread on psx-scene where a user gives a tutorial for making characters swaps: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f180/res...utorial-93042/. You'll see that he and I had a bit of a dialogue on it, and he revised the instructions quite a bit as we talked about it. He's basing his tutorial off of a discussion on this RE 4 and 5 modding forum: http://z6.invisionfree.com/Resident_...pic=16113&st=0. To get this all to work, I ended up completely removing RE5 Gold from my hdd and deleting the game data, then reinstalling it from scratch and following the tutorials from there. I don't think that's necessary, but for whatever reason I couldn't get the swaps to work before doing that.

The character swaps are kind of glitchy, at least from my experience, but I'm also not at all knowledgeable about hex editing, so someone who knows what they're doing could probably do better (I discuss some of the issues on the 2nd page of that thread). My Wesker-for-Chris swap causes the game to crash on cut scenes most of the time, but as mrox explains, it's probably because there's an error in the modded arc file I'm using that could be fixed.

I'll send you a PM with some files for Wesker, Jill, and Rebecca that could get you jump-started on this.



And thanks for more details on RE4--that all makes sense now. And I just used a US save to force English. Not only does it work for changing the in-game text from Japanese to English, but even better is that it brings back the censored gore! At least I know that enemies' heads now explode when being shot, which wasn't happening before. Awesome.

Yep, I suspected that this would happen even before the patch leaked, but this also has a backside. It kills Ashley's Suplex move which have been removed from non Japanese versions, not that it's something even worth mentioning though... XD
