Reason for black screen with PS1 backups CD-R discs
Note: Posted it as separate thread since it will be lost in multiMAN update thread. Just confirmed something, there are bad dumps of PS1 game discs around. They may work with emulators on the PC and such but when put on the real console or in this case the PS3 they give problems. The bad dumps usually have been ripped incorrectly, and for example a good disc image dump of "MegaMan X6 [SLUS-01395]" has these properties "MODE2/Form1/2352" as many (if not all) the PS1 discs. I found out a bad dump of the same game "MegaMan X6 [SLUS-01395]" with these properties "MODE1/2352", after burning and testing the disc image 2 times, the result was a black screen after trying to boot the game using multiMAN v02.08.01 (XMMB / File Manager) not even the PS1 logo came up, and Swapping disc or using "Breaker Pro" didn't work at all. So I decided to test this "bad dump" on the PC with pSX 1.13 emulator, and it worked there, because the emulator doesn't actually care about the disc format, the emulator just looks for a disc drive to get the contents from, so basically if there are bugs in game, they might not even be related to the emulation, the one responsible for the bugs in this case would be the disc image. Now, after I burned the proper dump "MODE2/Form1/2352" to the 3rd CD-R disc and tested it on multiMAN v02.08.01 everything went smoothly ![]() I hope this helps people getting black screen after burning backups to CD-R discs. EDIT: No wonder why Cobra have this on their Documentation:

That's asking for warez. Your explanation just proved it.
Just because you love the game doesn't make it okay to pirate it. If you want pirated games this site/forum is the last place to ask for them. No one will help you pirate/download games, its against the forum's rules. Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk |

Convert ISO to Bin/Cue
I found my problem. The games that were originally ripped as BIN/CUE work fine when burned. But a game that was originally ripped as ISO and then converted to BIN/CUE will not load. Hope this helps others.

Just posting to inform that I been working on a new C/C++ application for windows, but since it doesn't depend on windows libraries I will try to port it to PS3, just for fun.
The application at its current state, can identify a variety of disc images, by carefully checking the data structure and stuff like the System Area, Data Area, Primary Volume Descriptor, Synchronization header, etc...Im in the process of implementing the modules that will read all the remaining details about the image, like directory structures, files on the disc image and such. Im not a professional working with disc images, I been slowly doing research and learning the most i can, so maybe my methods are not the best, but so far are producing results ^^. When its finished this application should allow the user to verify ISO disc images, or BIN disc images, CUE file parsing will be implemented, but atm its not necessary, unless of course the BIN disc image is missing some structure data or has a rare mode / form. It should be possible to extract the contents of an ISO / BIN as well. I will try to organize my source code the most I can so if some other developers wanna use it for other PS3 applications / emulators, etc, they can easily include it. On other notes, since I had to do a lot of research about ISO9660 format and the different types of CD-ROM images, like for example Yellow Book (MODE1 / MODE2 / 2352), Green Book (MODE 2 / Form 1 / Form 2 / XA). It results that disc images with extension ISO should have data following the standard ISO9660 (MODE1/2048). Basically what this means is that you cannot make an ISO disc image of a MODE2 / 2352 CD-ROM, if somehow the program dumps the CD-ROM it will have missing data and the resulting disc image will be MODE1 / 2048. That dump is not 1:1, and should be avoided for video game dumps, like for example PS1 disc dumps. The proper format to use is BIN for discs backups (it should always be with a well structured CUE file) These numbers: 2048 and 2352 represent the size of each sector in bytes. Sectors of 2048 bytes are just plain data, and sectors of 2352 contain other extra data, like for example synchronization headers, ECC data, etc... Finally, the documentation from Cobra is wrong when they recommend ISO with MODE2/2352 for PSX backup images, because as I said before a standard ISO9660 should only be MODE1/2048. They are right about the CUE/BIN tho', so what I recommend is to try not to use ISO disc images for game backups, use CUE/BIN since they hold all the original CD-ROM data. Once again I hope this post help some people ![]() If everything goes right with my WIP application and I can port it for PS3, I will release it as a module for use with @deank 's multiMAN ^^. PS: Sorry for such a long post LOL xD SeeYa! ^^

Great explanation
Sounds very good.
Hoping we get that code incorporated into multiman
