If you read well all comments, you'll know it's possible.

It looks like the way to get ps2 backups working is the self not the hardware!
I am really sure that sony just told us storys about that ps2 games can't be played with non BC models. If i am right there are no hardware changes between the BC and non BC models.

It was there when i downloaded it a year ago ?
I was looking in my PS3 hard drive with multiman file manager in dev_hdd0. The PS1 EMU folder contains 2 self files + a eboot.bin. I am no dev but i am wondering, is this why we can play PS1 games through multiman now ? It all started when that other dev, I 4 get his name. He clicked on the self, i believe in the PS1 emu folder with a burned PS1 game disc in multiman.. I could be wrong but the PS1 game may have been able to boot do to a eboot.bin being there ? ..So basically PS1 emu folder was complete ,with .self files + eboot.bin to boot a burned PS1 disc ? The PS2 EMU + PSP EMU folders contain only selfs & no eboot.bin. I was thinking can this be one of the reasons why multiman can not emulate PSP or PS2 games do to a missing eboot.bin. The PS3 can not boot a PS2 or PSP burned game disc without the correct eboot.bin ..? Only way to know this assumption is for a person with a backwards compatible PS3 -> To check the PS2 emu folder & see if it has 3 self files + a eboot.bin ? There has to be a reason why there is a eboot in PS1 EMU folder in dev_hdd0 & NONE IN PS2 EMU/PSP EMU FOLDER ..? I would like to know if the PS3 model that can play PS2 has both PS1 + PS2 eboots in both ps1/ps2 emu folder ? If it does have a eboot , what if we without the eboot.bin copy it to out ps2 emu folder ? it may boot ps2 games then .. This is just a theory & i been thinking about this for sometime, i don't know anybody who has a ps3/ps2 backwards PS3.. that i can ask ?

I've managed to get my PS3 into service mode in 3.50 then upgrade to 3.73 [It initally RSOD'd but I managed to update it using lv2diag.self + ps3updat.pup (3.73) on a USB + a swapped HDD from another slim [CECH-2501B], not sure if the last thing I did would do anything to assist this process.]
I'm in the process of trying many PS2 games, but all of them thus far [NTSC, I have a CECH-2001A slim] coming up with the following error after a few seconds of video signal switching around.. "This title is not currently compatible with the PS3 system. If you update your system software the title may be compatible with your system..." Drakan: The Ancients' Gate Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec Grand Theft Auto 3 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas [regular release and version from the trilogy] Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Odin Sphere Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty MLB 08: The Show The Sims X-Squad OFW 3.73. Yeah, I've tried a lot of titles and nothing works. - Thankfully this PS3 I have is a spare model I'm using to play around with things, so having it stuck in service mode isn't a big deal for me.
