3.73 downgrade and backup questions - PS3Hax Network

I was given a ps3 with OFW 3.72, i was wondering if their was any other ways than the E3 flash to downgrade this due to being restricted to their CFW (multiman). If this was the only option would this still allow me to play the latest backups and if so what other disadvantages would their be to using this CFW.

If any information or links can be given it would be much appreciated
