That is not the Patch!!! that is the Update patch for the Game 1.02 LOL
The Update Patch is 35mb ver 1.02

How's the progress going anyway? I've been trying to find a save file with auto save turned off, but no luck yet.

Nah I have been looking on PS3 Sites for a save file that already has auto save turned off.

I, too, am on 3.55 so there's really nothing I can do apart from boot and get the black screen as you do.

@bubba if you can get a save with the auto save feature turned off. even if the save is locked you can use rebug fake save data owner feature to by pass that. :D

Yes, and kamel has a rebug CFW Tutorials

after installing rebug, go to where you have all of your saves on your ps3's menu, highlight or select a game then press you'll see a list of selection and one of them is unlock saves.
