cleaning my ps3?

hi folks.. my ps3 is 40gb phat model cechh 08 16mn nor version..
i got it last year brand new with 1 year sony warranty from a electronics entertainment store.. they had stock lying with them.. they gave it to me for a price of 9000 inr.. it converts to be 200$ roughly.. whereas the new slim in india was 21000rs at tht time which was 450$ converted.. so i sealed the deal and got it.. to be sure it was brand new and not used it came with a firmware version which had other os feature in it. i dnt remember the version of system software.. but at tht time latest system version was 3.41 so i updated to it..

now when my ps3 is 1.5yrs old i was thinking to clean it from inside and get the dirt out.. what im asking is this should i open and clean it??
is the time has come to clean it?
and links to any suitable guides in opening up of ps3..
it will be first time i open a ps3..
and also things which should i take care of while opening and cleaning my system..
any help will be appriaciated..
thnxx folks..

If you want to clean it thoroughly then yes, opening it would be the way to go. There are plenty of guides to disassemble a ps3, just do a google search. You will need a torx bit to take the case apart. Once you've taken the case apart just dust it lightly and get all the built up dust off. You'll need to be careful of the components' ribbon cables. If you fully disassemble it to clean under the fan assembly then you'll also need to watch out and not break the cable connections (as they are fragile) and note exactly where each screw goes as there are quite a few different sizes. All in all its a fairly easy job and I'm sure you'll do just fine.

No, you dont really need to completely take it apart to clean it. You only do that if you want to be extremely thorough (You'd be surprised how much dust gets in the system and where it ends up). If you take the fan assembly/heat sinks off then you will need to clean off the old thermal compound and reapply new compound (I recommend something high quality such as arctic silver 5). If you dont want to take it completely apart then just focus on the areas where air is supposed to flow (around the fan ducts and air vents) and try to use dry compressed air to blow out the areas a cloth wont reach.

Exactly, if you dont want to reapply thermal compound then dont take it all the way apart. Just take the case off (you can also take off the bluray player and other components) and get all the dust you can. A small towel or cloth will suffice in most areas but if you want to do a better job without taking it all the way apart you could use dry compressed air to get the areas a cloth wont reach.

I use a vacum, instead of opening it up or blowing air into it, it gets alot of stuff out of it of I have a Kriby vacum though, it also blows air too
