Signed it...but...

I almost hope this goes through...if they strangle the legal channels that are already subject to censorship and ruthless takedowns, then the illegal channels will blossom. Just look what happens when retail stores are banned in soviet countries...the black market is invigorated and you see heroin being sold next to televisions and blenders, and even the police have no interest in doing anything about it.

more news

But, first of all: GREAT WORK. The House Blacklist Bill was introduced as expected yesterday -- but with only a handful of sponsors.
There's little doubt that this is because of the ruckus we've all raised together -- especially the 50,000+ emails we sent in this week asking our lawmakers to refuse to sponsor the bill.

It's alive! And it's a nightmare.
The rumors were true: The new Blacklist Bill could effectively destroy YouTube, Twitter, and other sites that rely on user-generated content by making the sites' owners legally responsible for content their users post.
It also includes provisions that would make it a felony to stream unlicensed content -- including cover band performances, karaoke videos, video game play-throughs, and more.
It's a grab-bag of Halloween goodies for a handful of big corporations -- but for us it's Frankenstein's monster, cobbled together from half-born bills, set to suffocate free speech and innovation and terrorize consumers and Internet users.
Will you click here to ask your Congressmember to oppose the legislation?

Thumbs up Nobody thought it could be done-Internet Blacklist Bill

To me ..From -> demandprogress.org

Nobody thought it could be done, but it looks like we've turned the tide against the Internet Blacklist Bill. Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi just spoke out against it !

[ Republican Darrell Issa says it now stands -> "no chance of passage"! ]

It's been a show of force like no other->More than (700k) Anti-censorship contacts have been delivered to Congress so far this week, as the Blacklist Bill gets heard in committee.

( What an amazing couple of days -- let's top it off, and spread the great news! )

Please send one more message to Congress -- even if you already have -- touting our numbers and telling them they need to back down. Let's make it clear that the Internet has risen up, and won't back down until Congress heeds our calls.

If you care about your freedom & internet ,rights ?
Send the message !
Every letter sent helps this much -> 100% !

===============The Stop Online Piracy Act
==========================================================

The Stop Online Piracy Act would ruin so much of what's best about the Internet:

It will give the government and corporations new powers to block Americans' access to sites that are accused of copyright infringement, force sites like YouTube to go to new lengths to police users' contributions, and put people in prison for streaming certain content online.

Please just click here to send one more message to Congress, and use these links to ask your friends to share the news:->

If you all care ?
Please reg & send !

I don't get why the hell people think that they have the right to censor things on a realm that nobody can claim rights to. It's just freaking madness.

These things may create a nice black market, but they also give police the ability to look one way for some and one way for others. Corruption would run rampant even more so than it already is.

We already are a country with secret police...what I hope is that everyone is forced to go underground so that the secret police won't know who to target.

It seems that they are begining to start to block some web sites from most DNS servers. I recently tried to access MEGAUPLOAD with no success from my standard DNS server.

If anyone else has problems, a quick solution is to use another DNS server, Google's DNS still work. point your network settings to 8.8.8.8 as primary and 8.8.4.4 as secondary and for the time, this should help you access some web sites that are blocked.

As soon as I used this configuration, MEGAUPLOAD was available again.

Yeah...they do this every year on Cyber Monday...they blocked over 100 sites this time. It is completely illegal but they do it anyway, without consequence. One of the provisions of this bill would be to force all DNS companies to follow these bans...so the google and openDNS tricks would not work.

I gotcha, but it's a temporary "quick" band-aid until a more permanent solution is found. Just reporting to help others out because it's undermining the first amendment to the US constitution and I for one am asking everyone I know to stop buying CDs and DVDs and Blu-rays and stop going to see movies since it is these entities that are behind this travesty. Maybe it won't work, but a boycott will at least wake these MoFos up and know that we will not tolerate being bullied once and for all.
