Is it due to the shape of your eye? I know people who are color blind had a hard time with the 3d productions that used the blue and red glasses but I would imagine they can experience 3d with the newer technology.

EDIT: Sorry didn't see the focus part as I was typing my response at the same time.

Layaway always seems like such a silly idea..."buy it for the current price, get it when it costs less"...other than avoiding running out of stock, what is the point? And this year, you don't have to worry about them running out of stock. In fact, I'm not buying any electronics until the 27th when they realize that with everyone out of work, their stock reductions were not nearly enough.

Personally, I am waiting for real 3D TVs...I actually have a 3D capable screen already (bought it before they were being sold as "3D"...I just wanted a high refresh rate) and I don't think the current "3D" is worth the cost of the glasses. I would say go with a screen twice the size rather than some gimmicky "3D" TV that you can only watch for 30 minutes at a time while wearing glasses.

If I remember correctly, you can return items that were on layaway right? I am sure there is some kind of plan I can devise to put a micro dent in the devils billion dollar corporation. Add that plus returning items I didnt even buy. If enough people do it for the duration of its existence, then perhaps one day my parents can open up their old grocery store again huh?

Best advice: go to some retail store and look around. Find one that has a nice picture quality and layout, and (if you can) make sure that there is room for the connectors to go in without bending. Make sure that the stand is sturdy enough that it isn't going to fall over if someone slams the door, and of course you don't want a unit with a visually unappealing case. Also, consider getting one with VESA mount support...even if you don't want it now, you never know what you will want to do in the future.

As for ordering, you can often get a TV slightly cheaper online. If the savings is large (even after shipping), then this is a good option. If the saving is relatively small, I would recommend the local store. Even the best brands sometimes get those green vertical lines or dead pixels within the first few weeks...and it is preferable to be able to drive it back to the store and exchange it rather than doing an online exchange. Even with a company like Amazon that has an unbelievable return/replacement policy, the turnaround time is still a few days.

[edit]
When you are at the store, play with the on-screen menus...this is often overlooked, but can be a real PITA on some models.
been reading some cnet reviews they seem to think Samsung have the best quality out of all the tv's any opinion on that

I like the way you think...buy up the store stock on layaway right before their big sales push then return it all the day after XMAS!!!

Samsung seems to be a decent company...I don't personally have a lot of experience with them like the other brands I listed, so I really shouldn't comment. The image quality does usually look good tho.

Wish I could help you man but I have owned a limited amount of TVs and never had a Samsung. I have a Sanyo LCD that has lasted me over 5 years with no problems so far. They are usually pretty cheap too. As was mentioned previously, I can add with assurance that it is best to stay away from Vizio, it might be the best price but they are cheap for a reason.

Sharp Aquos Quattron with four-primary-color technology would be my choice if my TV would die on me now

I know it is out of your price-range, but this is the one I love (and want): http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/13/s...han-the-one-y/

70 inch
