Resolution stays a problem with very big screens. Only if you have a big house and you sit far from this size tv's it is do-able. But I like the size very much

Samsung TV's are great also, but I only buy Japanese TV's. Was a big fan of Sony's Trinitron in the early days. Sorry for $ony I don't buy (or advice) their products anymore....

It is a matter of opinion. You can only look at so much of a TV at a time...you look at a smartphone screen held a few inches from your face, and it is the same size to you as a 90" screen on the other side of the room. Sure, 1080P might not look perfect if you are 2 feet from the 90" screen...but when would you ever do that?

Best advice: go to some retail store and look around. Find one that has a nice picture quality and layout, and (if you can) make sure that there is room for the connectors to go in without bending. Make sure that the stand is sturdy enough that it isn't going to fall over if someone slams the door, and of course you don't want a unit with a visually unappealing case. Also, consider getting one with VESA mount support...even if you don't want it now, you never know what you will want to do in the future.

As for ordering, you can often get a TV slightly cheaper online. If the savings is large (even after shipping), then this is a good option. If the saving is relatively small, I would recommend the local store. Even the best brands sometimes get those green vertical lines or dead pixels within the first few weeks...and it is preferable to be able to drive it back to the store and exchange it rather than doing an online exchange. Even with a company like Amazon that has an unbelievable return/replacement policy, the turnaround time is still a few days.

[edit]
When you are at the store, play with the on-screen menus...this is often overlooked, but can be a real PITA on some models.
my last two hd tv's have been LG.
i cant fault them at all, good price good quality

I've got a 42" LG LCD and it's been really good for me. My only gripe so far is that when you change source it takes about 2-3 seconds to flick in.

My parents also have a 55" LG Plasma, very nice as well. Samsungs are also good TV's too.

I had a 56" LED-DLP for 2.5 years before it died on me. It was one of the earlier models yet. I'm not huge into the tech/specifics sorry.
