I say this thread should be closed as disc-backup compatibility is not as good as harddrive storage method and is a waste of peoples time and money , far too hit n miss for me personally and i think any1 who has tried this awful method will also vouch for this ; how much money and time been wasted on blank dvd-r not to mention bdr/bde 'shut this thread down save people some money'

ya, compatibilty is very low. I wouldn´t advise anyone to burn on non-rewritable discs for now.
I still give thanks to Deank for another advancement and option on the ps3 though.

Tested Far Cry 2 on Verbatium DVD+R 4.7 Gb - perfect, fully working! Proofscreen (Russian lang start screen):

But i have a big problem... GTA IV not working at all...

Cos original IV costs 10 Gb space, i've done rip some files (i'm not sure how doing this right on PS3 games, cos it's not logical, do not iso and we not have "master file" and "relink file" options, anybody can help about it, please?).

Ripped all videos and radio stations + file "speech.rpf" i just replace ripped files with null txt files named like original, is thats right?

So, IV rip working perfectly from external HDD, but when i start it in DVD 4.7 Gb, i got this error:

I tried to delete old game data manual, actually its deleted from internal HDD, then i tried to launch it with another method, but its also totally FAILED

Can anybody say, maybe game on DVD need to be with original files, when they do not riped? Or what i can do on another try?

Greetings everyone, I´m new in this forum and I´ve been specifically following this thread the past few days. First of all I´d like to thank a miiiiillion, no, a "ziiiillion" to DeanK for such a wonderfull work, my external HDD just broke about one month ago and, as I can´t afford a new one right way (in fact it will take a while since I´m not as "rich" as many of some other members in here), well, so thanks to this brand new method I´m able to have much more options of game variaty since my PS3 has only 40GB of internal capacity.

For those who said it´s an useless thing, well, get something important to do with your lives, for once you have time to follow a thread that doesn´t matter for you everyone could only assume you have nothing productive to do with your lives.

DeanK, you´re a life saver man, and as a way of keep on motivating you to improve this method as you already do with your other projects, I´d like to post bellow my trials report of the games I´ve been trying along with the Discboot method so far:

All the games were burned using either DVD-R Starmil or DVD+RDL Elgin according to the game size of course. In near future would be great if people create a thread only for this kind of reports and possible solutions as we already have one about the CFW 3.55 games compatility post for instance.

I own a FAT PS3 with CFW 3.55 (don´t really know which cfw once I bought it used), 40GB with ps move kit and with latest multiman (2.09) installed.

BTW, if someone could tell how to identify my cfw pleeeease tell me and I´ll thank a lot

I´ll post here all the games I try with discboot and pray for you to keep on working on this project because it´s gonna change gaming scenario on ps3 history making many gamer´s lives around the world much more simple
